Fire Protection - Done Right

The primary filling material used in most mattresses is polyurethane foam, including memory foam and so-called “biobased” or “soybean” foam. Polyurethane foam is a highly flammable petroleum-based material. In fact, the National Association of State Fire Marshals refers to polyurethane foam as “solid gasoline.” Due to its high flammability, polyurethane foam is typically treated or wrapped with fire retardant chemicals, which may introduce health and toxicity concerns. Most manufacturers don’t even disclose their fire retardant materials.

At Naturepedic, we believe in safer sleep without harmful chemicals. We consider the best form of fire protection to be superior design that avoids the needs for these chemicals in the first place. Through extensive research and creative product design, we have completely eliminated the need for flame retardant chemicals and chemical flame barriers in our products.

We use materials like organic cotton fabric, organic cotton batting, plant-based non-GMO PLA batting, and steel innersprings in place of polyurethane foam and synthetic fabrics with a higher fuel load. Our materials tend to smolder instead of burst into flame, which provides valuable time for you to get your family out of the house if there is ever a fire!

Our unique and innovative approach to mattress construction provides a simple solution that meets all federal and state flammability standards without the need for any fire retardant chemicals or flame retardant barriers. After all, the safest fire retardant chemicals are none at all!
