5 Tips For A Sunday Reset
Sunday is the prime time to prepare for your upcoming week. Whether you choose a day of rest or a day of productivity, our Sunday reset tips will help you make the last hours of your weekend count and set you up for a happier Monday and a good week.
1. Prepare Healthy Meals: This one’s a classic. By doing some meal prep for just an hour or two on Sunday, you can eat healthier during the week and avoid emergency takeout when you’re too tired or can’t decide what to make for dinner. Packing your lunches during the workweek will also save time and money! A little bit of prep on the weekend goes a long way during the week.

How to do it: Chop up veggies in advance, cook meats or soups in a crockpot, and put your rice cooker to work for simple steamed rice. Plan strategically - If you prep baked chicken, rice, and veggies on Sunday, you might make a chicken stir fry on Monday, shredded chicken tacos on Tuesday, and omelets (with Tuesday’s leftover guac and tomatoes!) on Wednesday.
For easy lunches, bake potatoes or sweet potatoes to have with soup and a salad for a simple, filling lunch. You can change up the toppings to keep variety throughout the week.
2. Plot a Course for Exercise: Regular exercise boosts your immune system, provides energy, and even helps you sleep better - and we love a good night’s sleep! No matter what your workout of choice is, make exercise part of your plan this week and ensure you’re getting at least a few minutes of stretching a day to be more mindful and present in your body. If you can make it to the gym, do a workout DVD at home, or go for a walk or run outside, so much the better!

How to do it: You may need to adjust your alarm clock to fit in some morning exercise if you’re not already in the habit. Start this week by waking up 15 minutes earlier each day and doing simple stretches or a quick walk around the block. The next week, add another 15 to get in an extra half hour of movement in your morning. Make sure you’re adjusting bedtime to compensate.
3. Get the Kiddos Ready: If you have children, it’s important to prepare them for the week too! Set aside backpacks and Monday’s lunch for an easier morning and start to the week. Also, make sure to get everyone scrubbed clean on a day when you don’t have to rush bathtime!
Jess H. says: “In our house most days are the same regardless of if it’s a weekday or weekend, but on Sundays I bathe the kids so I know they get a clean to start the week. I’ll probably have to do it again tomorrow though!”
How to do it: Include the kids in planning out Monday morning to cut back on tears and tantrums when the weekend’s over. You could ask them what they’d like for breakfast and what they want to wear the next day, and lay out their outfits in advance. Let them help pack lunches and backpacks so they feel more excited about getting up and ready to go in the morning.
4. Treat Yourself: Before another busy week, indulge yourself with something relaxing that’s just for you. It could be a long bath with a book or magazine, a walk alone in your favorite park, or settling in to watch a movie with some organic popcorn. Especially if you have a high-stress job (or stay home with kids, which counts!), you need to take the time to reset and set yourself up to handle whatever the week throws at you.

How to do it: Make it clear to your family that you need some uninterrupted time for yourself to rest and recharge! Get your favorite snack and a good book and go hide for an hour. If you can’t find a moment to yourself at home due to the demands of a busy household, politely excuse yourself to the nearest local park and enjoy the fresh air and scenery - or go grab dinner solo.
5. Check Your Calendar: This one is hit or miss for some folks, but checking your work calendar before heading into the new week can help you with your time management and remind you of any big meetings you forgot about. We’d recommend you don’t do it right before bed -- that might cause a lot of swirling work thoughts as you try to fall asleep -- but checking early in the day on Sunday just to get a reminder of your upcoming schedule can help, if you are schedule-oriented. How to do it: If your work calendar has a phone app, install it and keep it in a folder or a screen that is out of the way.
