Green Staycation Tips

Yes, taking a destination vacation is great, but have you ever tried relaxing at home? Hear us out.

Do you ever feel like you need a vacation after your vacation? Because let’s be honest, vacations are fun, but there is so much to do and see in such a short amount of time, and that can be exhausting. Avoid the vacation hangover by trading in the beach and amusement parks for a quiet week at home.

And since you’ll be in full rest and restoration mode, it wouldn’t hurt to make it a healthy week—for your mind, body, and spirit. It can feel like a week at a wellness retreat!

Here are some tips for planning the perfect Green Staycation.

1) Meditate.

Think of this is a daily, mini-vacation for your mind. Whether it’s in the morning or at night, take at least 15 minutes a day to meditate. Meditation is a great way to manage anxiety and stress, helping you to feel calm and focused.

2) Shut Down.

We know it’s tempting to binge-watch Netflix while on vacation, but we’re trying to make this a healthy week at home, OK? Light the candles, open the windows, limit the TV time and shut off electronics as much as possible. Sometimes, one of the best things you can do for yourself is disconnect from distractions.

3) Get Creative in the Kitchen.

A Green Staycation won’t be complete without the greens! Stock your kitchen with veggies, fruits, and other natural foods and try some new recipes this week. Check out recipes for cleanses, smoothies, and clean meals to help you feel energized!

4) Be Active.

You don’t have to run a marathon or wear yourself out this week (unless you want to), but you can add some new activities into your days that will help make you feel your best. Instead of driving, ride your bike. Look for yoga classes. Take a hike. Go for a walk or a run in the morning. Stretch. It doesn’t matter which fitness activities you like to do—just be sure to get up and get moving!

5) Start a Garden.

You’ve probably thought about it at some point, right? Now is the perfect week to do it. If you really want to go green, plant your favorite vegetables to grow your own food. And if you want something more visually appealing, pick out some pretty flowers and get planting! (You could also start your own compost if you’re ready to go all in on the organic lifestyle.)
