The Truth About Organic Cotton Farming

It’s easy to assume that products containing farmed materials are inherently healthier. By choosing a product made with home-grown ingredients, you cleverly avoid all those harmful toxins and chemicals that factories use to mass-produce their goods, right? Wrong! And that’s where organic farming comes in. It may surprise you to learn that cotton—the most often used natural fiber in the world—is also the world’s most chemically-treated crop. While cotton is a staple of the textile industry, not all cotton is organically farmed. Conventional cotton, by contrast, is more harmful to the environment with a 64% higher potential for its production to contribute to global warming. On National Farmer’s Day, let’s take a moment to consider the advantages of organic farming for both our health and the environment. At Naturepedic, we are proud to offer mattresses made with certified organic cotton that’s organically farmed, producing fewer greenhouse gases, improving soil quality, and utilizing less energy overall. Did you enjoy watching where[…]

With the kids home for summer, there’s no better time to get started with an organized daily task routine. By using our Daily Checklist for Kids, you can pass some responsibilities onto your kids and give them the chance to confidently contribute to the household. The Power of Green Cleaning in the Nursery

Guest Blog by Lisa Janvrin, YouthfulNest You wouldn’t think this to be true, but I believe the nursery is one of the most forgotten about places to clean on a regular basis. It’s probably because when you’re in there you’re either completely consumed by the task at hand or exhausted by the task at hand. Not leaving much time to think about cleaning it. HERE, THERE AND EVERYWHERE. Obviously, in the baby room there is the common dust and dirt that accumulate in any room, but there are also lots of unique substances that add to your clean-up duty like spit-up, breast milk, formula, feces, urine, snot, and even vomit. All of these can easily get spread around the room and make baby sick if they aren’t cleaned up properly with non-toxic products. For immediate needs, use those handy baby wipes, if their good enough for your baby’s bottom for sure they will be safe on your countertop. Then on[…]

Back to School Sleep Schedule Tips

It’s that time of year when Monday through Friday you and your children will have to quickly become accustomed to early alarms. That’s right, it’s time for school! Don’t expect anyone, especially your kids, to all of the sudden be jumping out of bed as soon as the alarm rings. Long summer nights and a more relaxed routine make settling back into an earlier school bedtime harder for your whole family. To help make this transition easier, we suggest a few tips. 1.) Limit TV Time Before Bed During the summer, most parents become pretty lax about bedtimes, nighttime routines, etc. There’s no problem with having a bit of fun and bending the rules, especially when school’s out, but it will have an effect on your kids’ sleep schedule. Sleep will play a large role in your child’s success at school, so even if you let them watch tv late at night during the summer, you should now try to[…]

Picking the Best Organic Kid’s Mattress

Choosing a mattress for your child is an entirely different ball game than buying one for yourself. Not only will your child’s mattress support their growth in size and weight, but it will also be the mainstay of naps, story-time, and sleepovers. Rather than thinking of your child’s mattress as just another item to purchase, consider it as an investment. Essentially, buying the right mattress is an investment in your child’s long-term well-being, which is why you should always choose organic. Moreover, while sleeping on an organic mattress is important for the whole family, it’s even more important when you’re dealing with growing bodies and developing brains. Many researchers suspect that toxic chemicals play a significant role in the dramatic increase in childhood disorders, and though many of these chemicals have been banned from baby mattresses, they’ve been replaced by other chemicals, which may be just as dangerous. Fortunately, Naturepedic’s line of organic kids mattresses offer cozy, comfortable support for[…]
