Organic Mattresses

A mattress is one of the most personal products in your home — you use it for eight hours a day, every day. That means what it’s made of matters a lot. At Naturepedic, we’ve spent over 20 years crafting organic mattresses from real materials you can really trust.

What is an Organic Mattress?

An organic mattress is a mattress made with certified organic materials, such as cotton, wool, and latex, and produced according to strict standards for material safety, environmental responsibility, and manufacturing practices as determined by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). Unlike conventional mattresses, certified organic mattresses minimize or eliminate polyurethane foam, flame retardant chemicals, vinyl/PVC, phthalates, or other materials and chemicals that can affect the air quality in your sleep space.

Organic vs. Conventional Mattresses

What goes into your mattress determines what you get out of your mattress. Here’s how organic materials stack up against what’s used in most conventional beds.

Organic Cotton

Naturally soft, breathable, and gentle on the skin, organic cotton promotes airflow and helps keep your sleep surface cool and comfortable.

Organic Wool

Mother Nature’s superfiber, wool wicks moisture to regulate temperature naturally, its crimped fibers are highly resilient, and it’s the most flame resistant natural fiber on Earth.

Plant-Based PLA

Derived from non-GMO sugarcane, this fiber adds lightweight resiliency and helps wick away moisture for a fresher, cleaner sleep environment.

Organic Latex

Flexible yet supportive, organic latex contours to your body for exceptional pressure relief and buoyancy. Like memory foam … without all the toxic chemicals.

Glueless Encased Coils & Microcoils

Made in-house from recycled American steel, our coils move independently to reduce motion transfer, enhance edge support and deliver responsive full-body alignment.

What’s Actually Inside a Conventional Mattress?

Most conventional mattresses start with polyurethane foam, then are wrapped in synthetic fabrics and treated with chemical flame retardants to pass flammability tests. Many also contain fiberglass, vinyl, phthalates, glues, and adhesives. These materials can off-gas VOCs, may contain PFAS and formaldehyde, and contribute to indoor air concerns. They’re exactly what organic mattresses are designed to avoid.

How Naturepedic Makes Our Organic Mattresses

We don’t outsource the things that matter. From sourcing certified organic Texas cotton from farmers we know personally to building our own steel coils in house with recycled U.S. steel, here’s how we keep quality and integrity in our own hands.

Inside Our GOTS-Certified Factory

Naturepedic has been making organic mattresses since 2003, when our company was founded by Board-Certified Environmental Engineer Barry Cik with a mission to create healthier sleep products. Today, our work is supported by an in-house chemist, a GOTS-certified organic mattress factory, and a hands-on manufacturing process that gives us more control over the materials, construction, and quality of every mattress we make.

Why Are Naturepedic Mattresses Made in the USA?

Naturepedic mattresses are made in the USA because making it ourselves is how we ensure it’s done right. Our organic mattress factory is located in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, where we can control quality at every step, from the raw materials we process to the quilts we stitch to the recycled-steel coils we build in-house. Made in the USA also means a shorter, more sustainable supply chain, fair labor practices we can ensure, and full accountability for the quality of your bed.

WHY CERTIFICATIONS MATTER

How Do I Know If an Organic Mattress Is Actually Organic?

Anyone can call a mattress “natural” or “nontoxic” — they aren’t regulated or standardized terms. Certifications are how you know these claims are true. These independent organizations test and verify our materials, our finished mattresses, and even our factory, so you don’t have to simply take our word for it.

CertLogos Certification Badge GOTS

Certifies organic textile materials & responsible manufacturing.

Certifies that latex is organic & sustainably processed.

CertLogos Certification Badge EWG

Verifies ingredient health & transparency.

CertLogos Certification Badge Made Safe

Screens materials for human & environmental health.

Certifies low emissions & non detectable PFAS/ formaldehyde.

Organic Mattresses for the Ones Who Matter Most: Our Kids

This is our “why.” Naturepedic began with a grandfather who wanted a safer crib mattress for his first grandchild and couldn’t find one he trusted. That grandfather happened to be an environmental engineer too — so, he made his own. More than 20 years later, we’re still making crib mattresses and kids mattresses for our tiniest sleepers with certified organic materials, firm support, nontoxic waterproofing, and no polyurethane foam, flame retardants, fiberglass, or vinyl/PVC. Because healthier sleep matters at every age, but it matters especially when they’re just starting to grow.
