Organic Supima Sheets FAQs

Supima cotton represents less than 1% of the world’s cotton and is prized for its extra-long staple fibers. These fibers create a smoother, stronger yarn that resists pilling and maintains softness over time.

Not by default. Supima refers to the quality of the cotton – specifically extra-long staple fibers grown in the U.S. – not how it’s farmed. While it can be grown organically, most Supima cotton is conventional unless it’s explicitly certified. If organic standards are important to you, look for certifications like GOTS to ensure that the cotton was grown and processed according to strict environmental and social criteria. And, rest assured that Naturepedic’s Supima Cotton Sheet Sets and Duvet Sets are 100% GOTS-certified organic.

The sheets are woven at 300 thread count using a two-ply construction, which creates the feel and performance of a 600 thread count fabric.

Percale sheets are crisp and cool with a 1/1 weave that makes them extra strong. Sateen sheets are softer than percale, but with a more delicate weave. Supima sateen, the fabric we use, takes both softness and strength further – its extra-long staple fibers create a smoother, silkier hand feel and an heirloom-level durability.

Our Supima sheet sets are only available in Arctic Snow (a luminous white) and Natural Undyed (a warm, speckled tone that reflects cotton in its raw state). However, our Organic Cotton Sateen Sheets – a similar weave, but less luxurious – come in a variety of seasonal and timeless hues.

Very minimally. Because our Supima cotton sheets are pre-washed, most of the natural shrinkage has already been accounted for before they reach your bed. While all cotton can react to heat, Supima’s extra-long staple fibers are more stable than standard cotton, helping the fabric to better maintain its size and shape over time. With proper care – like washing in cool water and drying on low heat – any additional shrinkage should be negligible.

Supima cotton is naturally more resistant to pilling thanks to its extra-long staple fibers, which create a smoother, stronger yarn that’s less likely to break or form pills over time. As for wrinkles, like all cotton, it can wrinkle slightly, but Supima’s smoother, more refined weave helps to reduce that lived-in look compared to standard cotton. With proper care – washing in cool water and removing promptly from the dryer – your sheets will stay smooth, soft, and looking well-kept.

Machine wash cold on a gentle cycle with like colors, using a mild detergent. Avoid bleach or fabric softeners, which can compromise the fibers. Tumble dry on low heat or line dry, and use a warm iron if desired to restore a smooth finish.
