Why an Alpaca Mattress Topper?

All Season Comfort

Because alpacas thrive in the extreme high and low temperatures of the Andes Mountains, their wool boasts a lightweight, airy structure and excellent thermal regulation. Its innate ability to combat drastic temperature changes helps to keep you comfortably regulated throughout the night, in every season.

Allergy-Friendly & Flame Resistant

Once reserved for Incan royalty, alpaca wool is highly functional with a softness that rivals cashmere. It contains bacteria-suppressing keratin, but not lanolin – the main allergen in sheep's wool. It’s considered non-flammable with a 1st Class designation from US CPSC Commissions Rating.

Responsibly Sourced

Our alpaca wool is conscientiously shorn from free-range alpacas reared in the highlands of Peru with the utmost care for the animals’ well-being. By sourcing directly from a small array of Peruvian suppliers, we’re able to support sustainable practices and help bolster the local economies of communities in the Andes mountains.

Simpler, Better Materials

Before it becomes a topper, it starts here. Cotton fibers. Alpaca wool. These materials are selected not just for how they feel, but for how they’re sourced and brought to life: organically.

Organic Cotton
Certified organic cotton stands out as a safer choice for the environment, farmers, and consumers alike because it's cultivated without synthetic pesticides or fertilizers, as prohibited by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). Organic certification ensures adherence to strict environmental and ethical standards, promoting biodiversity, soil health, and fair labor practices. This results in a healthier, more sustainable fabric that minimizes exposure to toxic chemicals.

Alpaca Wool
Sourced from the soft fleece of alpacas, alpaca wool is valued for its natural performance and lower-impact production. Known for its hollow core structure, alpaca provides effective insulation while remaining breathable, helping to regulate temperature without trapping excess heat. It's also naturally lanolin-free, which contributes to a softer feel and reduces the need for intensive processing, making it a more considered choice for both comfort and sustainability.

Sustainability in Every Stitch
Naturepedic has been honored with the Good Housekeeping Sustainable Innovation Award, the Real Leaders® Eco Innovation Award, the Clean Production Action's Chemical Footprint Project Front Runner Award, the Environmental Working Group Hero Award, and others. We are a Green America Gold certified business and, as a 1% for the Planet® Member, Naturepedic donates 1% (or more!) of our annual mattress sales to environmental organizations driving change.
